What are the best hospitals in Louisiana for patient safety?

What are the best hospitals in Louisiana for patient safety?

When it comes to choosing a hospital for you or your loved one, it’s important to pick one where patient safety is ensured.

Patient safety refers to how hospitals and other health care organizations protect their patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

In order to find out which hospitals uphold patient safety the most, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns grades, measuring patient safety, to nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals across the U.S.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 32 evidence-based measures of patient safety, including CMS Medicare PSI 90 Patient Safety and Adverse Events composite, which includes 10 component measures.

What hospitals are the least safe in Louisiana?

Three Louisiana hospitals received a ‘D’ grade on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, and no hospitals in Louisiana received an ‘F’ grade.

  • Acadian Medical Center: 3501 US Hwy 190 in Eunice
  • Lake Charles Memorial Hospital: 1701 Oak Park Blvd. in Lake Charles
  • Northern Louisiana Medical Center: 401 E Vaughn Ave. in Ruston

These three hospitals did not participate in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. This means that the hospitals did not respond to all patient safety measures within the survey.

The grades may have been impacted by the fact that the hospitals did not respond to Leapfrog’s survey publicizing relevant data. However, the Leapfrog Group says that they use supplemental data sources in their methodology in the event that a hospital does not respond.
